The New Covenant 2
Devotional Reading: “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:” — Jeremiah 31:31 (KJV)
The new covenant, established through the blood of Jesus Christ, brings with it incredible realities that transform our lives. One of these realities is the forgiveness of sins. In the old covenant, sins were covered by animal sacrifices, but in the new covenant, sins are completely forgiven and forgotten (Hebrews 8:12). Imagine writing down all your sins on a piece of paper, only to have God take that paper and shred it into a million pieces, never to be remembered again.
Another reality of the new covenant is our newfound identity as children of God. In the old covenant, only the high priest could enter God’s presence, but in the new covenant, we have direct access to God through Jesus (Hebrews 10:19-22).
The new covenant also brings with it the gift of the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to live a life pleasing to God. In the old covenant, the Spirit would come upon certain individuals for specific tasks, but in the new covenant, the Spirit dwells within us permanently (Ezekiel 36:27). Imagine having a personal trainer who not only shows you the right moves but also gives you the strength to do them.
Practically, living in the realities of the new covenant means we no longer have to live in fear of God’s judgment. We can approach Him with confidence, knowing we are forgiven and loved. It also means we don’t have to rely on our own strength to live a good life – we have the power of the Holy Spirit within us.
As we go about our day, let us live with the freedom and joy that comes from knowing our sins are forgiven, we have access to God, and we have the power of the Holy Spirit within us. May these truths transform our lives and empower us to live for Him.
Prayer and Confession
Thank you Jesus for the forgiveness of my sins never to be remembered, thank you for access and the gift the Holy Spirit dwelling within me and transforming my life. Hallelujah!
