In The New Covenant We Have Access

Devotional Reading: ‭‭Hebrews 9:11-12 ESV‬‬ But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.

In our anchor text, we see that Jesus has entered the holy places on our behalf, securing an eternal redemption. This means that He has done the work necessary to reconcile us to God, and we can now enter into God’s presence with confidence. Think of it like a wedding – just as a groom goes to great lengths to prepare a beautiful home for his bride, Jesus has prepared a way for us to enter into God’s presence, where we can be with Him forever.

But how does this impact our daily lives? Practically, it means we don’t have to fear God’s judgment. We can approach Him with boldness, knowing that Jesus has already secured our redemption. For example, when we sin, we can run to God know that He forgives and He has forgiven, rather than hiding from Him in shame. We can say, “God, I’m so sorry for what I did. Thank you for forgiving me through Jesus.”

This passage also reminds us that Jesus’ sacrifice was once for all. He didn’t have to keep offering sacrifices like the old covenant priests did. This means that our salvation is secure – we don’t have to keep earning it or worrying about losing it. Think of it like a deposit on a house – once the deposit is paid, the house is secure, and we can live in it with confidence. Jesus’ blood is the deposit that secures our salvation.

But what about when we feel far from God? What about when we struggle with doubt or fear? That’s where the promise of eternal redemption comes in. We can remind ourselves that Jesus has already secured our place in God’s presence, and nothing can ever take that away. For example, when we feel anxious, we can say, “God, I know you are with me, and I am secure in your presence, no matter what I’m feeling right now.”

Let us remember and let it always be in our consciousness the work that Jesus has done on our behalf. Let us live with confidence, knowing that we have been redeemed and can enter into God’s presence at any time.
