Obedience; Pathway to Blessing
Devotional Reading: “I, the Lord, have sworn by myself that because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your beloved son from me, I will bless you with incredible blessings and multiply your descendants into countless thousands and millions, like the stars above you in the sky, and like the sands along the seashore. They will conquer their enemies, and your offspring will be a blessing to all the nations of the earth—all because you have obeyed me.” Genesis 22:16-18 TLB
The believer is not one who is trying to get God to bless him, we are blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ already. However, it’s necessary we understand that there are positional truths that no one, not even the devil can contest. Also, we need to know there are practical ways needed to follow to experience and enjoy the dividend of such blessings in the physical world.
Looking closely into the life of Abraham, one will notice that he was an addict of obeying God’s word. Beginning from the call; to leave his hometown, to sacrifice his promised son, his prompt response to the call, later instruction never to touch the child, all of that indicated how obedient he was to Yahweh.
The next time you join them to sing that popular chorus, ‘Abraham’s blessings are mine …,’ ask yourself the question, how obedient am I to the leadings of the Lord? Remember the story of King Saul whom the Lord instructed to utterly destroy the Amalekites, but did otherwise with the intention of sacrificing to the Lord (1Sam 15). Of a truth, that which you are doing for the Lord is a good one, but the concern is whether or not it is acceptable and worthy of God’s blessing. Choose to obey the Lord and you’ll enjoy His blessings.
Prayer and Confession
Lord, as I follow in obedience, I enjoy every blessings that comes with it. Amen!
