Before The Betrayal

Devotional Reading: “And said unto them, what will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.” (Matthew 26:15 KJV)
Many times that believers miss the mark; sin, the challenge is not so much about the act performed as much as the reason behind such act which in most cases are not so obvious. For example, the first Adam fell into sin of disobedience, underlying that was the sin of lust of the eyes, lack of trust and covetousness (Gen. 3:1-6).
Either good or bad prophecy, human agent is always needed for the execution. May your life not fulfil bad prophecy in Jesus name. Nothing recorded in Scripture was ever a coincidence. The amount offered to Judas by the chief priests speaks volumes looking into the custom of the Jews. It’s a known fact among the Jews, thirty shekels of silver was the payment, the standard price of a slave (Exo. 21:32). Offering that to Judas meant that Jesus was considered worthless and no more than a slave (which he knew its implication also), little wonder Apostle Paul says, “Christ made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men” Philippians. 2:7.
The compromise you allow in your life has a lot to say about the worth you place on the Lord Jesus Christ. In your case, the thirty pieces of silver could be your job, associations that you keep or whatever it is that is making you trade the Truth; the Lord Jesus Christ for what the world can give. Like Judas, such betrayal will lead to guilt and despair. Only if you’ll be sincere with yourself, you will notice that, that which you value over Christ is already causing a decline in your spiritual state.
Prayer and Confession
I will not fall for the schemes and wiles of the devil as I continue to be a vessel unto honor and not dishonor in His household. I walk only in God’s preordained path for my life in Jesus name. Amen.
